I have expensive taste. Unfortunately for me, I do not have a bottomless bank account. I've been pining after this rug from West Elm:
And this duvet from Pottery Barn:
So gorgeous, right?! Unfortunately these aren't in the budget right now since we are looking into having our back door replaced. However, I figured there were some small updates I could make around the house that would add some beauty and function, and not break the bank account.
The first thing I did was get a couple of new throw pillows for our bed. We had been using the couple that came with our comforter set, but they were a little too matchy-matchy for me, and they were a little small for the bed.
The new pillows are more my style, fit the bed better, and were super reasonably priced!
The other nice thing is that should we ever splurge on the gorgeous Helena duvet, these throw pillows will go with that as well.
Another quick, cheap update was a new soap pump for our kitchen sink. Here's what we were working with:
Self-explanatory, no? Here's the new guy:
We never used the lotion pump even before the top broke off, so this beautiful apothecary-style soap pump takes the place of the honking double-bottle tray. I also intentionally got a pump with a black top so a different metal (like shiny chrome) wouldn't clash with our
new faucets.
As a final small update, I picked up this beautiful basket for next to the
piano:
While the piano bench does have storage in it, it doesn't fit all of my sheet music. In addition, I figured it would be easier to just reach over and grab a new book, rather than having to get up, open the bench, grab what I want, close the bench, and get situated again.
I just layered in a throw blanket we already had around the house, and put in the music books I reach for most frequently. My loose sheets I kept in the bench so they don't get all bent and crumpled in the basket.
I'm super happy with these updates, and so is my bank account! Is there anything in your home that could benefit from a simple change while you save up for big ticket items?
