A Custom Door is Coming!
Our back door has some serious issues.
Outside the hideous vertical blinds and empty curtain rod brackets, which we would pull off no matter what, the wood to the door is warping. This means if the door isn't dead-bolted shut, it will swing open on its own. Not the safest with a kiddo who is rapidly on his way to being mobile.

We do have a crappy retractable screen, which is a struggle to open and close. On top of that the screen is ripped, so we never use it. We really want an option for letting some fresh air into the house during the beautiful Arizona winters.
Most importantly, because this door setup is likely original from when the house was built in 1988, it isn't up to current pool code. We want to take every step possible to make sure our son is safe when he starts toddling around.
I got quotes from a whole bunch of different door companies (all of whom thought our door setup was very weird - apparently this should have been either French doors or a slider). After much debate, we went with a custom iron door option.
We are so excited! We opted for French doors that will swing out into the yard rather than into the house as our furniture would be in the way. The glass panels of the doors will have screens behind them, so we can open just the glass panels to let the breeze in all winter long!
They are going to be so gorgeous, and we were able to design them ourselves to make them exactly what we want. Most importantly, we will have double deadbolts to keep our son safe and away from the pool. Now the only
problem is the 10-12 week lead time before they are ready to be
installed! They should be here sometime in early October, just in time
for the gorgeous winter weather.
