New Chairs for the Dining Room

When we first moved to Arizona, we lived in a rental house for a year. That house had a clearly defined dining room, and we only had a very small antique table that we had brought with us. We were poking around thrift and consignment stores for various furniture, and found this mid-century modern dining set for $400.

It was what we could afford at the time, and we liked the slick chrome legs and having the extra seating available for guests. However, over the course of the last two years, the chairs have slowly started falling apart. We actually originally had five chairs; one collapsed several months ago.

When the rest of the chairs started to do this, we decided it was high time for a new set. We looked around at possibly getting an entirely new dining set, table and all, but the table is still in great shape and we didn't want to spend an exorbitant amount of money. In addition to that, a lot of the dining tables I liked didn't come with chairs, so we would have had to buy them separately anyway.

Enter these awesome Eames chairs, at under $50 a pop! I bought a set of four and a set of two on Amazon. We love that they are plastic so they're wipeable (so necessary when we have a growing baby), but they still look clean and modern.

We chose black, but they are available in a ton of different colors. They were also super easy to put together; it just involved screwing the legs onto the plastic seat.

Once we got them into the dining room, I realized I also loved how low-profile they are. The high, decorative backs of the old chairs really interrupted the space visually.

While I would still like to get a new dining table down the road (the brown and chrome aren't really jiving with the black and light wood), it already feels like our dining room has gotten a major upgrade.
