Pillow Talk

Unlike most other home bloggers, I've always struggled with the concept of spending money on throw pillows. Not that I have anything against their looks; they can be extremely attractive. It's just that to me, even $25 per pillow seemed like too much, especially when you need a handful.

Therefore, I have spent the last 10 months with these:

These are the pillows that came with the couches we bought shortly after moving into our house. While not extraordinarily offensive to the eyes, I never particularly liked them. They read a little old-fashioned to me, and just aren't my style.

I happened to have a little bit of store credit to Ross, and decided to actually try out some new throw pillows since at least a small chunk wouldn't be paid out of pocket. Here's what I came home with.

These three are from HomeGoods.

These three are from Ross.

And to be honest - I love them! It makes the space feel so much more luxe. All the old pillows were exactly the same size and fabric, it was just three of the flower pillows and four of the diamond. Having different sizes, colors, and textures makes the whole family room feel more adult.

These textures though!

One thing that was important to me was making sure these would be comfortable enough to actually use. I didn't want to have to get different pillows to actually squash around on the couch to take naps. These are soft, and the textures give a ton of interest without being uncomfortable.

I also wanted to keep the color scheme fairly neutral. Later on, it might be nice to have a couple bright accent pillows, but for now these incorporate nicely into our living room. Even the purple pillows don't stand out too much, but just add some variety and bring out the gray of the couches.

Despite fighting it for so long, I guess I'm now officially on the throw pillow bandwagon.
