Guest Bathroom Updates
Hey all, it's been awhile! It feels like every minute of September has been booked solid for us. We've had two out-of-state trips, a multitude of birthdays, and are expecting out of town guests this weekend.
Preparing for in-house guests meant that I needed to do some quick guest bathroom updates. Our tub/shower combo had a track with sliding glass doors rather than a shower curtain. I couldn't dig up a picture from the true before, so here's where we were at:
Because it was extremely difficult to bathe my son in the tub with the sliding doors in the way, David popped them off and tucked them away in the garage a month or so ago. This left a setup that is great for bathing a baby, but not great for anyone else that needs to shower.
To prevent head injury, I popped off the top of the track (it just slid on top of the two vertical tracks and had some caulk around it). I knew I wanted to put up a tension rod and shower curtain, and didn't want anyone to bash their head if they didn't realize the frame was there.
I went to Target and picked up a curved tension rod to make the shower a little roomier, a white waffle-weave curtain, a clear shower curtain liner, shower curtain hooks, and a new bath mat.
This bathroom gets great light, so I went with the clear liner and white curtain to let as much daylight into the shower as possible. This particular shower curtain was 75" x 75". The standard is 72" x 72". I opted for the larger size so that I could hang it a little higher (though the liner was still standard size). Hanging it higher helps to draw the eye up, making the shower and the room look taller. The added length also allows the curtain to cover the entire front of the tub, making it appear white rather than almond.
I opted for a new fluffy white bathmat, since the old navy one looked cheap and darkened the room way more dramatically than a bath mat has the right to.
I chose stainless finishes to match the faucets and light fixtures on the other side of the bathroom.
This bathroom has very few spots to hang towels (our guests have had to use an over-the-door hook), and in removing the shower doors we removed one easily accessible towel bar that was attached. Therefore, I added this expanding towel hook between the shower and the window.
It's nice for guests to have a place to put their towels within arm's reach of the shower, without said hook being too close to the toilet for comfort.
We originally intended to put the shower doors back on once we are done bathing babies, but I love the way this brightened up the space to much I may take the tracks off altogether!
